Golf side game
How to play Vegas
For a foursome, in two teams of two.
How it works
Player 1 and the partner picked in setup play the other two. On each hole a team puts its two scores together, low score first: a 4 and a 5 make 45. A 10 or worse goes first, so a 4 and a 10 make 104.
The money
The lower number wins the difference in points, and each player on the winning team wins that many points from a player on the other team (50¢ a point to start).
Birdie flip
On by default: when a team makes a real birdie and wins the hole, the other team’s number is turned around, high score first, so 56 becomes 65.
Handicaps
Net (the default), with full handicaps or off the low player, or gross. A hole counts once all four have scores.
Example
Ann and Bo make 4 and 5 (45), Cy and Di make 5 and 6 (56): 11 points, so Ann and Bo each collect $5.50. If Ann had made a birdie 3 instead (35), the flip turns 56 into 65: 30 points, $15 each.
This is how Putt for Dough plays it; setup changes the amounts. Free, with no account: one phone keeps score, everyone follows the money live, and settling up is a tap.
